Fall is officially here, and while the temperatures are still scorching hot, Austin is ready for all of the FREE fall fun that is in store! From San Marcos’ Mermaid Fest to fall gardening, here are the top FREE things happening around Austin this weekend.

Splish Splash for Baby Safety Friday, September 23rd | From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. | Goldfish Swim School, 8038 Mesa Drive
The Golfish Swim School is hosting a Splash and Swim event to celebrate Baby Safety Month! Bring all your family and friends and suit up to hop into the shiver-free water. This is the perfect time for family fun or for swimmers to show off the progress they’ve made in lessons!
Friday Fun Nights: Acoustic Night Friday, September 23rd | From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. | Yonders Point, 3300 East Palm Valley Boulevard, Round Rock
The FREE “Friday Fun Nights” at Yonders Point continues with ACOUSTIC NIGHT. This FREE event includes LIVE music by Landers Duo, cotton candy compliments of Ally Medical, a Movie in the Park featuring “The Greatest Showman” sing-a-long and family activities! Bring your blanket, chairs and picnic dinner and enjoy the event with your family!
Movies in the Park: In the Heights Friday, September 23rd | From 8:30 to 10 p.m. | Pan Am Park, 301 Chicon Street
Based on the hit Broadway musical from acclaimed writer Lin-Manuel Miranda, In the Heights tells the story of a New York based Latin American community, Washington Heights, in the build-up to a blackout that changes their lives in ways they could never have predicted. Catch the movie in the park for FREE!
Round Rock Public Safety Day Saturday, September 24th | From 9 to 1 p.m. | Centennial Plaza, 301 West Bagdad Avenue, Round Rock
Join Round Rock Police, Fire, and Wilco EMS for a chance to meet local first responders and see the vehicles and equipment they use to respond to local emergencies. This free family event provides a chance to check out the Round Rock SWAT team, Traffic Unit, Crime Scene vehicles, Round Rock Fire engines, Hazmat, a live vehicle extraction, and more exciting public safety vehicles. Kids of all ages can enjoy games, face painting, and more.
6th Annual Mermaid Promenade & Downtown Street Faire Saturday, September 24th | From 10 to 7 p.m. | San Marcos Mermaid Fest, 111 East San Antonio Street, San Marcos
The central theme for this entertaining family event is the Fresh-water mermaid. The famous, new icon of San Marcos, now designated The Mermaid Capital of Texas, celebrates our history of the Aquamaids of Aquarena Springs and immortalizes the mermaid as guardians of the San Marcos River. The Festival is FREE of course!
Doge ATX Parade 2022 Saturday, September 24th | From 10 to noon | Pease Park, 1100 Kingsbury Street
Join the first-ever Doge ATX Parade, sponsored by the Japan America Society of Greater Austin (JASGA). Do you have a Shiba Inu (or just love them)? The Doge ATX Parade will feature a selection of Austin-area Shibas, in addition to language instructions on Japanese dog phrases like “sit”, “stay”, “roll over” with Japanese language instructor, Kazki Watanabe, author of “Japanese for Dogs.” Plus a special tea ceremony presented by Chado Austin, and an Origami class! All dogs must be leashed, and Shiba Inus that appear in the parade must be registered.
Fall Gardening: How to Grow a Kitchen Garden for Food, Flowers, and Pollinators Saturday, September 24th | From 2 to 4 p.m. | Round Rock Public Library, 216 East Main Street, Round Rock
At this FREE program, Jennymarie will give you a rundown of what you really need to know to get started growing food and flowers this fall. You’ll learn easy, organic methods that nurture wildlife, attract bees, and create beauty as well as bounty in your yard or container garden!

Kendra Scott Flagship is hosting a FREE Pilates class, in-store, led by Tori Stephens, the lead instructor at Club Pilates William Cannon! This class will be suitable for any fitness level, so bring a friend and a mat and we will see you Sunday, September 25th!

Lapsit Storytime is for parents/caregivers and children ages 0-15 months. Librarians lead the group in songs, fingerplays, and a book for the first 15 minutes. The last 15 minutes is baby social time, where babies can play.
