A coworking multispace in Portland is the first in the nation to get a new high-tech soundproof pod.

With things like Zoom and conference calls a big part of the new work day norm, office areas can get pretty loud. That includes at the Cloudport CoWorking MultiSpace on Federal Street in Portland.

"A lot of people duck out on the picnic tables, on the couch areas," says Josh Corbeau of Cloudport. "Some people would hide in our shower area to take phone calls and everything."

To help provide a little quiet, they bought the $15,000 Framery One soundproof pod from Framery Acoustics in Finland.

"If it has a green light on it, you can just walk in and do quick touch on the panel and it will block off anywhere from 15-30 minutes for you," says Corbeau.

The pod features best-in-sound insulation standards and echo-free acoustics along with constant air ventilation.

The technology is a big boost for workers.

"We're seeing a huge influx of people taking phone calls, Zoom calls especially. So, we've increased our bandwidth up to a gig," adds Corbeau.

The boost comes at a very good time.

"The pandemic was probably the best and the worst thing to happen for co-working. It was very quiet here for 15 months. But now we are seeing a drastic increase in demand," says Corbeau.

The soundproof pod is available for use by any Cloudport member.
